Mike was a three sport varsity athlete at Fenwick, playing football, basketball, & baseball. He played wide receiver for the football team and was captain his senior year. He was the leading receiver in the Greater Cincinnati area with 60 receptions for 844 yards and 9TD's. He received first team honors from the MML, District 15 Coaches,& Cincinnati Enquirer, and was Special Mention All-State.
Mike was also captain of the basketball team which finished 16-5. He led Butler County with a 62% field goal percentage. Mike was named first team All-league, District 15 Coaches, and Middletown Journal, and was Honorable Mention All-State. He received the Tom Meehan Catholic Athlete of the Year award and the Rose Schwab Memorial award for football.
After Fenwick Mike attended Ohio State University, graduating in 2001 and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Army. He was promoted to Captain in 2004, serving in Iraq from February 2004 to February 2005, where he was awarded the Bronze Star.
Mike serves in the "Big Red One Company" and is currently Company Commander for the 741st EOD(Explosive Ordinance Disposal) unit and is on assignment in Afghanistan. |
