 Maggie was an outstanding scholar-athlete at Fenwick, starting varsity all four years in volleyball and lettering in basketball her freshman through junior years. Her senior year she was not able to play basketball due to being selected to play in the Junior Olympic volleyball program. During her three years of basketball she played the forward positon and was a strong rebounder and defensive player. In her sophomore year the team was District Runner-up and then junior year they won the District championship. Maggie was selected first team All-MML her junior year.
However, it was in volleyball that Maggie really excelled. She played the outside hitter position and served as team captain her senior year. She helped lead the Falcons to three District titles and a District Runner-Up. The 1984 team finished with a 24-6 record, with Maggie being chosen Mid-Miami League Player of the Year. She was also selected District Player of the Year and chosen to be on the Class A All-Star team.
Maggie was selected the Fenwick Girl Athlete of the Year her senior year. She was on the Honor Roll for all four years and had a 3.86 GPA while at Fenwick.
Upon graduation from Fenwick, Maggie received a volleyball scholarship to attend Ball State University where she continued her volleyball career. Her senior year she was second in service aces, third in digs, and third in kills, and received Honorable Mention on the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team. She majored in Dietetics and was on the Dean's List. After graduating from Ball State, Maggie continued to play volleyball in the USVBA for six years, receiving several individual and team awards.
Maggie married Pat Gilbert, a 1983 Fenwick graduate, and they have three children attending St. Susanna School in Mason. Samantha is in the 7th grade, Courtney is in the 6th grade, and Jimmy is in the 4th grade. Maggie has coached both of her daughters' volleyball teams at St. Susanna and she is also involved in several other parish activities, including the festival and the boosters. She and her daughters love horses and have volunteered at the horse rescue in Springboro. |
