 Jim was an English teacher at Fenwick and he coached both girls basketball and girls volleyball. He coached the girls volleyball team for 8 seasons from 1976 to 1983. His record during this time was a remarkable 143-29. During this time the Falcons won seven MML league titles and seven Sectional/District championships. This included back-to-back undefeated regular seasons in 1979 & 1980. Jim was named MML Coach of the Year five times, in 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1982. He was selected District Coach of the Year seven times, from 1978-1984.
Jim was the girls basketball coach for 4 years from 1977 to 1980. The Falcons won the Sectional and District championships all 4 years and were Regional runner-up in 1980 when they posted a 19-5 record.
Jim left Fenwick to coach at Wittenberg University where he was named Coach of the Year in the OAC Conference for 1985. After some time at the collegiate level Jim returned to coach high school and he is currently head volleyball coach at West Forsyth High School in Cumming, Georgia, where he has compiled a 97-30 record since 2007. This year's team was state ranked and Jim received Coach of the Year honors.
Jim has been married to wife Sue for 40 years and they currently live in Cumming, Georgia, which is about 20 miles north of Atlanta. Sue also worked at Fenwick, teaching English & French classes.
The Orr's have two children and six grandchildren; some are with us this evening. They are interested in antiquing and enjoy traveling.
It should be mentioned that Coach Orr's ties to Fenwick are still strong. Last year Jim and Sue drove up from Georgia to cheer on the 2010 Fenwick Girls' Volleyball Team when they won the State Championship. After the game they got back in their car and made the lengthy drive back home to Georgia. They also returned later in December to atttend last year's Hall of Fame Induction dinner when one of his former players, was inducted in the Athletic Hall of Fame for Bishop Fenwick High School. |
